Taken to Yemen in 1980 to record the architecture of the Tihamah coast and plain, for an American led expedition.

After the 1981-82 expedition which did not include Sanaä, John decided
to spend three personal visits to extensively draw in the Unesco protected
old city, a place of tower houses and mosques.
Most of these are on tinted paper and coloured.
